How to Apply

AWARD AMOUNTS

The total number of scholarships granted and the amount awarded per student are at the sole discretion of the Foundation’s Board of Directors and are directly related to the funds available per semester. The amount and number of scholarships per semester are determined in March of every year.

The first scholarships to be awarded will be for the January 2009 semester.

The first semester awards are tentatively scheduled to be:
1 scholarship for $10,000
3 scholarships for $5,000

If an applicant withdraws from the program at any time, they must repay all of the awarded scholarship funds.

REQUIREMENTS TO APPLY

  • Applicant must demonstrate a desire to develop their pastry art skills.
  • Applicant must be accepted into L’Art de la Pâtisserie program.
  • Applicant must work a minimum of 40 hours in a foodservice establishment prior to the beginning of the semester, and their work must be documented by a direct supervisor.
  • Applicant must submit a personal essay: How will you begin working toward these professional goals through your experience here at The French Pastry School of Chicago?
  • Applicant must provide two letters of recommendation.
  • Applicant must demonstrate financial need. Students who will be seeking student loans or other financial aid to support their enrollment in the program must supply this information. A copy of the previous year’s tax return is required.

APPLICATION PROCESS

  • Applicant must be accepted by The French Pastry School for the upcoming semester.
  • Applicant must submit the scholarship application form and all the supporting data by the semester deadlines: May 1st for July semester and October 1st for January semester.
  • Applicant is informed of scholarship committee’s decision in writing by May 31st for the July semester, or October 31st for the January semester.
  • Applicant confirms admittance by returning signed Student Guide and Policy Manual and submitting a deposit of $3,850 by cash, check or credit card; or the student seeks funding with federal financial aid and/or loans documented by an award letter to the Director of Admissions with a payment of $855. This fee covers the cost of books, tool kit and uniforms and secures a spot in the upcoming semester.

APPLICANT SELECTION
The foundation’s Board of Directors shall choose five individuals to serve on the selection committee. The committee shall review each applicant and determine who is eligible, as well as who are the final recipients of the scholarships.

The selection is awarded October 31st for the January semester and May 31st for the July semester.
